November 19, 2021 - Updated 2
We would like to update you on the situation in Western Canada in relation to the significant rainfall resulting in multiple slides coming off the mountains.
Transportation modes impacted: All rail services coming in and out of the Port of Vancouver have been halted.
Both CN and CP Rail are working to clear their tracks as safely as possible. Additional rain and slides are heightening the situation and extending delays.
CN: All intermodal and carload traffic northbound and eastbound from Vancouver, as well as traffic inbound to Vancouver from east/north of Kamloops continue to be affected by this situation. Currently not providing any export capacity for both loads and empties and this will remain in effect for the duration of this outage.
CP: Exports gates open from Bensenville and Minneapolis today and Detroit tomorrow. Canadian terminals may re-open the gates next week depending on network conditions- subject to change.
It is anticipated that regular flow in and out of Port of Vancouver will be impacted for the next few weeks. We will see increased congestion at terminals and expect vessel delays.
We are working closely with different stakeholders to understand the impacts of the delays on terminal operations and to develop a contingency plan.
Impact to Maersk operations: Our offices are open and working – and not impacted since most of our staff are working from home. Our warehouses are open and working.
Your business is important to us and we pledge to keep you fully informed as more details become available.
Should you have any questions please contact your local Maersk professional.
