In October we communicated that as part of APMM’s goal to streamline and optimise our global logistical network, Maersk will no longer call the port of Gijon as of 16 December 2021.

Following this initial communication, we have seen a lot of misunderstandings and now see a need to underline our intentions.

Your partnership remains of the utmost importance to us, and whilst the port will no longer be part of the Maersk ocean products offered through APMM, both Hamburg Süd and Sealand Europe will continue to call the port with weekly sailings to “El Musel”.

Our belief is that by dedicating specific services to dedicated ports, we improve our overall customer offering, all while reducing our carbon footprint. As your integrated logistics partner, our aim is to assist you in building a more efficient supply chain, and remain at your service, ready to assist on all matters pertaining to your logistics.

In optimising and redistributing our volumes, we are also strengthening our inland offering and as an option to ocean, cargo to and from the port of Gijon will have a possibility to go by truck via the Port of Bilbao and Port of Vigo.

We apologise for not being clearer about our intentions, as we constantly strive to add value to our customers’ businesses and to better cater for your needs.

We thank you very much for your trust and loyalty and would like to continue working together both at Gijon port, as well as the other terminals included in our ocean offering.

Please make sure that you reach out to our local teams, es.import@maersk.com or es.export@maersk.com if you have any question as they are always available to support.
