Increased Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) export exams in Montreal
We have been made aware that as of March 1, 2023, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has increased the number of export exams it conducts at the port of Montreal. This is due to the increase in stolen property and other contraband being exported. These containers will be referred to the LaFrance Examination Facility for a full destuffing and exam. Please expect delays if your export container is pulled for a full inspection. LaFrance does not expect these exams to have an impact on their import examinations.
Maersk will be billed for these exams directly by LaFrance at the rate specified in their current schedule and Maersk will be adding these charges to your ocean bill of lading accordingly.
Below is the current rate schedule for full destuffing and exam at LaFrance (subject to change without notice). Note that these fees are not set by Maersk and are specific to the LaFrance location in Montreal.
20 ft container - $850
40 ft container - $1200
45 ft container - $1500
(plus $350 drayage charge for all containers)
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your business and trust. We look forward to continuing to serve your global transportation needs.
