UPDATE : Maersk would like to inform you that as of 1 July 2024, Secure Chain, an extension to the existing Portbase services used for container release, will become the only platform to share release rights for all cargo from North America. While registration is not yet mandatory for other origins, Maersk can already provide container release rights through Secure Chain for all cargo from all origins to support customers in getting ahead of the rollout.

Secure Chain process has already been implemented for all cargo from Latin America as of 31 March 2024, and the process for cargo from North America will follow the same steps. Please see the advisory below for the exact steps, as well as the actions you need to take to prepare for Secure Chain rollout.

As your integrated logistics provider, A. P. Moller – Maersk would like to inform you of the changes in import container release process at the Port of Rotterdam. To continue providing a safe port-related distribution process in the Netherlands, Secure Chain, an extension to the existing Portbase services used for container release, will become the only platform to share release rights from cargo from Latin America as of 31 March 2024.

According to the new process, A. P. Moller – Maersk will provide customers with the release rights to their respective shipment, which then needs to be forwarded to the next party in the process, until the hauler does a preannouncement via Hinterland (Melding Container Achterland). The hauler will then receive the TAR code needed to pick up containers, removing the need for PIN codes and ensuring only the parties involved can perform container release activities and access container data.

While you will no longer receive a PIN code, you will continue to receive the release delivery note and have access to the release notification. If transport of your containers is handled by a third-party, customers must authorise another organisation, which then must nominate an inland operator.

To prepare for Secure Chain rollout, all parties involved in container release process need to complete the following steps:

  1. Register in the Cargo Controller or Cargo Release Manager service within Portbase
  2. Enter customer code
  3. After connecting to the Cargo Controller service, follow the steps described in the FAQ

If you already have access to the Cargo Controller service, you will need to enter customer codes once so you can assign your inland operator without a PIN in the future.

Maersk is registered in Portbase with SCAC code MAEU and full name Maersk Line Netherlands B.V. To find your Maersk customer code, log in into Maersk.com and see your code by clicking on your Profile. Once you and your partners have completed the steps and are ready to receive container releases through Portbase, kindly inform your usual contact.
