Gleidys joined Maersk in September 2023 as an Account Receivable Analyst at our Global Service Centre in Mexico. Now, over a year into her role, she shares her insights and thoughts on the culture, opportunity and belonging at Maersk.
What made you to join Maersk?
I was excited to continue my career in logistics, particularly in the shipping industry, which I find fascinating. I knew about Maersk’s reputation as a leading logistics company and had heard a lot about the strong sense of family among employees. When I learned about the new Global Services Centre hub in Mexico City and that they were hiring, I wanted to experience working here myself. Even though I wasn’t sure what to expect, the experience has been better than I imagined. Maersk values its people above all and actively promotes this ethos throughout the company.
What is it like working at Maersk?
Being at Maersk makes me feel proud. There’s a true sense of empathy within our team, and every role is valued equally. Training and development opportunities are a priority, and I’m genuinely impressed by the consistency with which leaders encourage and support our career growth. I’d read about Maersk’s values and purpose before joining, but only after working here did I truly appreciate how we all live by them every day.
What is your view of sustainability ambitions at Maersk?
Maersk takes its environmental and social responsibilities seriously, and this is felt and shown both internally and externally. We don’t just talk about sustainability—we act on it, with initiatives like investing in environmentally friendly vessels and internal meetings where we discuss our sustainability goals.
What do you do in your role?
As an Accounts Receivable Analyst in finance, I’m part of the West Coast team and work with customers from Ecuador. My main responsibilities include sending account statements, requesting payments, keeping balances updated, and managing credit lines. It’s a mix of interacting with internal and external stakeholders, and I especially enjoy talking directly with customers over the phone and helping with their requests.
What makes your role exciting?
I find the continuous process improvements and my responsibility in contributing to the company’s profitability very exciting. It’s rewarding to know I play a part in the day-to-day running of the company. It’s not just my role that’s valued here, I appreciate that I have a voice at Maersk and my opinions matter, and that we are all a team, no matter what role we are in.
What do you enjoy most about working at Maersk?
Without a doubt, the cultural diversity, and I think if you ask my colleagues, they will answer the same way. We work with people from all over the world—different cultures, ages, and genders, backgrounds—and I love that global atmosphere.
What is your view of DEI (Diversity, equity, and inclusion) at Maersk?
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are understood by leaders and colleagues across Maersk as essential. Here in Mexico, we’re a melting pot of nationalities, ages, genders, and backgrounds. With gender distribution around 50/50, we embrace everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, disability, race or religion. We have a workplace where everyone feels welcome.
What is your overall experience of working at Maersk?
Working at Maersk means being part of a safe, supportive environment where growth is encouraged, and there’s a constant focus on improving together. I feel lucky to work under leaders who are the most open-minded people I’ve met. To me, Maersk is home!
