We start the year with a much-improved operational environment in South Africa: no waiting time, low terminal, and yard density, plenty of depot capacity and an improving equipment position. Wind stoppages in Cape Town have been minimal - we have been blessed with a benign southeaster windy season so far – and bodes well for our grape shippers for the rest of the season. As we emerge from the festive season lull, increasing throughput will place more pressure on port and landside infrastructure. We start 2025, however, from a good place, with our services on schedule and fully open for business.
Further afield we continue to monitor the political situation in Mozambique – Beira and Maputo have high waiting time. Port Louis is recovering from the low productivity and the delays of Q4 last year and waiting time has reduced. We collectively felt relieved as the US East Coast terminal strike of 15th January was avoided with agreement reached with ILA.
Finally, the clock counts down on the go-live date of our Network of the Future – the replacement for 2M. We launch 01st February! Gemini Cooperation | Network of the Future | Maersk
