A.P. Moller – Maersk would like to inform you that in line with the ambition of the Government of Gabon and its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and remain a carbon neutral country by 2050 and beyond, the Government through the presidential decree of Jan 16th, 2025 launched the Sovereign Carbon Initiative and established the Sovereign Carbon Registry of the Republic of Gabon.
As of 1st April, the inclusion of shipping in this initiative puts a price on the GHG emissions. The additional cost incurred to comply with this directive will be applied to all export and import bookings under the new charge code CEE/CEI (Carbon Emissions Export/Import) for such initiatives.
