On 10 August 2025 at 03:00, a freight train carrying bulk cargo derailed at the entrance to the Borovnica station in Slovenia. There have been no casualties reported, and we can confirm no Maersk cargo was involved in the accident.

As a result of the derailment, rail line between Ljubljana and Pivka was closed. At the moment, only one track out of four remails usable, and repairs are expected to last up to 10 days.

Due to the situation, we are expecting some delays to cargo on rail and ask for your cooperation as we navigate the situation. For cargo already on rail, we will keep affected customers informed of the latest developments and cargo movements. For customers that would like to discuss alternative options for their cargo, please reach out to your local representative.

Additionaly, we would like to bring to your attention the below planned restrictions/closures on the railway infrastructure in SI/HU/SK that are expected to cause further delays and disruptions to the traffic.

  1. SLOVENIA - closures:
    • Logatec-Verd section will close completely in both directions for four hours in the evening
    • Verd-Logatec stations will be closed on 15, 16, and 17 August 2025 from 08:00 to 17:00
    • Ljubljana station continues to experience daily capacity restriction 30.11.2025
    • Hrastnik-Trbovlje has one track closed from 07:30 until 13:30
    • Borovnica station is expected to undergo repairs of the derailment section for up to 10 days
  2. HUNGARY – closures:
    • Hodoš - Ormož line had track cable on the section of the line with suspension of freight train traffic 08:30 to 12:30 on 12 August
    • Szombathely – Vasvár line is closed from 4 August 22 September
    • Szombathely R.– Z.iván line is closed from 4 August 22 September
    • Budapest Ferencváros - Budapest Soroksári út section will be closed and MCC terminal will not be reachable on the following dates: 15 August – 17 August (Friday – Saturday – Sunday: 72 hours) and 22 August- 24 August (Friday – Saturday – Sunday: 72 hours)
  3. SLOVAKIA closures:
    • Bytča-Plevník Drieňové line is experiencing a closure of track no. 2 and traction control lockout on 13 August between 07:00 and 13:30 for maintenance
    • Čadca-Čadca št.hr. will experience a closure of track no. 2 and traction control lockout until 1 September due to the national corridor modernisation
    • Bratislava-Kúty-Břeclav has capacity restrictions between 1 January 2025 and 19 December 2025
    • Bratislava ÚNS – Bratislava Nové Mesto has capacity restrictions between 2 March 2025 and 13 December 2025 due to a complete reconstruction, in addition to continuous capacity restriction from 1 August to 12 August
    • Žilina-Žilina zr.st. is undergoing modernisation of the connecting track 1BS until 12 December 2025
