We would like to provide an update of shipments impacted by the Gulf War that are located inside the Straits of Hormuz (SoH).
- These shipments comprise of EXPORTS from South Africa and IMPORTS to South Africa.
- These shipments are in transhipment status at Jebel Ali pending onward connections to destinations outside the SoH.
- A subset of these shipments is loaded on board the CMA CGM Antonio – at anchor inside the SoH.
Given the ongoing Middle East position and the escalation in the situation – with 3 container ships attacked by Iranian forces this week – the SoH remain firmly closed. We cannot guarantee safe passage and safety of our people, assets and our customers’ cargo remains the top priority
It means these shipments will continue to dwell on water - CMA CGMA Antonio - and at Jebel Ali terminal.
The CMA CGM Antonio remains at anchor off the Dubai coast.
While land-bridge solutions have been sought with the aim of moving landed units to an exit port - Oman (Salalah) and Saudi (Jeddah) - there is very limited long-haul capacity available and at prohibitively high cost so not a scalable and feasible option in the current conditions.
The situation is constantly assessed by our Gulf based team, in what remains a very dynamic and fluid environment. We will continue to monitor the situation and assess options for onward movement.
We thank you for your patience and understanding through this challenging period for the entire logistics community and society at large.
