Leigh Ramsay’s story

Leigh has been at Maersk for over 15 years, starting as a graduate, she has spent most of her career here in various commercial and operation roles before joining the Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) team in Maersk headquarters in Copenhagen.

Leigh has a congenital condition called Syndactyly. This means she doesn’t have full fingers on both hands. She sees herself as born different, but it does not define who she is. She’s never let her diverse ability limit her in any way, and in fact having a lived experience provides her with unique insights into how it is to be different and what extra steps companies can take to make people with diverse abilities feel more comfortable to bring their best self to work.

At Maersk, she has found an environment and culture in which she can thrive and help others with diverse abilities. In her current role as Senior Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Partner, she is able to put her passion and sense of purpose into practice to create a workplace that embraces all abilities and empowers others to reach their full potential. She has started by writing a Diverse Ability Policy and is Chair of the Diverse Ability ERN which both serve to foster further inclusion in this space at Maersk.

Embracing neurodiversity

Diversity in all forms brings talent to our organisation and  we are looking at ways to offer individuals with neurodiverse needs pathways to thriving careers.

As part of this focus, we work with partners to create recruitment programmes tailored towards neurodiversity hiring. In this way, we connect individuals to roles that allow them to grow, and ensure that their managers are fully equipped to support them.
