Shipping with Maersk Spot: Rollable Cargo, Cancellations, and Booking Amendments
Maersk Spot gives you complete control over your shipment and the flexibility to make changes from anywhere, anytime. If you’re new to Maersk, we encourage you to keep yourself abreast of Spot terms & conditions here. This article is a mini guide to some of our essential T&Cs on rollable cargo and booking amendments.
For non-time-sensitive shipments, Maersk provides shippers with an option to choose ‘Rollable’ at the time of booking.
Rollable option: flexibility for your cargo
- You can make your cargo ‘rollable’ if it is not time-sensitive. This means we might move it to a later sailing date than the one reflected in the booking confirmation.
- Cargo can be rolled at any stage, including the load port or any transshipment port.
- If we do roll your cargo:
- We won't be held to the original ‘Load as Booked’ promises or any other loading or delivery promise under Spot terms.
- You'll get a Rollable Compensation Fee from Maersk.
- Your cargo may get rolled, but only once. In the unlikely event of a double rolling, the Rollable Compensation Fee (per FFE) will only be paid once.
- The fee amount varies by trade lane, and you can find it during booking and in our FAQ section.
- Most of the time, rolled cargo goes on the next available ship at the loading port, but we do not guarantee this.
Maersk allows you to cancel your Spot booking within a reasonable time from the estimated time of departure (ETD), if needed. However, the following conditions apply:
- If partly or fully canceled 7 or more days before ETD, a cancellation fee per container is charged, and cancellation notice must be provided at least 7 days before ETD.
- If cancellation notice isn’t provided 7 or more days before ETD or goods aren’t delivered on time, a no-show fee is charged.
Note: As an exception, if you cancel the shipment by combining two bookings without affecting the original cargo volume, an additional fee may not be applicable.
With Maersk, you can amend your booking before the scheduled ETD. Here are some conditions that apply:

FMC terms: navigating maritime regulations
Sometimes, it's necessary to file the Contract Output and Spot terms with the United States Federal Maritime Commission (FMC). If we decide it’s required, certain terms related to cargo ownership, agent appointment, and minimum quantity would be applicable. Learn more about FMC terms here.
