This FAQ explains when a Shipping Instruction amendment charge may apply, which types of changes are chargeable, and how customers can avoid unnecessary fees.

1. When does a Shipping Instruction amendment charge apply?
1. An amendment charge may apply when a request to change Shipping Instruction is submitted after:
1. The Verify Copy has been issued, or
2. The container has been loaded on the vessel.
3. The criteria for the charge application and the amendment fee vary by country of origin. E.g. For country of origin China, an amendment fee may apply if the amendment is done after the Verify Copy has been issued. While for country of origin India, an amendment fee may apply if the amendment is done 1 day after container has been loaded.
2. What types of changes may incur an amendment charge?
1. Charges apply to changes that affect information shown on the Bill of Lading. These are indicated with a tag in the Shipping Instructions online form. The chargeable information groups are:
1. Document information
   1. Documentation type, Bill of Lading count
   2. Vessel selection and aliases
   3. Documentation requests
2. Party information
   1. Shipper or Consignee details
   2. First Notify or Additional Notify Party information
3. Cargo information
   1. Cargo description, package type, package count
   2. Cargo weight, volume
   3. Container number
   4. Marks and numbers
   5. Package or weight information
3. Are there any information groups or cases which may not incur an amendment charge?
1. Although seals are shown on the Bill of Lading, an amendment charge will not apply if it is updated.
2. Certificate requests are exempted.
3. HBL requests are exempted.
4. Out of gauge shipments are also exempted from amendment charge.
4. How will I know if a charge is applicable?
1. You will see the applicable fee and conditions indicated at the start of the Shipping Instructions page. This will be in accordance with the contract, origin country tariff and documentation requirements. In case a charge applies then you will be prompted to provide the payment term and the payer details in the review page before submitting the amend request.
2. Once the amendment request is processed you will be invoiced with the charge "Transport Document Amendment Fee - Export".
5. How can I avoid amendment charges?
1. To avoid unnecessary charges and delays:
   1. Check the review page before submitting the Shipping Instruction.
   2. Review the Verify Copy carefully when it is received.
   3. Verify all shipment and party information.
   4. Submit any correction requests before local country charge threshold.
6. Will an amendment affect cargo release or shipment processing?
1. Depending on the nature and timing of the amendment, document changes may require additional review and could impact documentation processing timelines. Customers are encouraged to submit amendment requests as early as possible.
