Supply chains in the lifestyle sector, such as clothing, footwear, textiles, luxury and toys, were under pressure even prior to the coronavirus pandemic that started in 2019.
Environmental sustainability, labour standards and technology adoption were among the internal challenges that companies had to face, but external headwinds were also additional complicating factors.
While the pandemic has hit the lifestyle industry particularly hard, mapping on to critical production and consumer markets like China and Italy, it should also be a spur for much needed reforms in the area. The Economist Intelligence Unit surveyed 450 supply-chain executives and interviewed a range of experts to garner their views and opinions on the future of supply chains in their industries.
