Connecting UK supply chains: lower-emission logistics across water, rail and warehousing

As UK businesses increasingly commit to more sustainable solutions, the search for logistics partners that help in decarbonisation efforts intensifies. At Maersk, we’re committed to decarbonising logistics on land, ocean and in the air with a target to reacha net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040;, and we aim to support our customers in achieving these goals themselves.
Every big journey starts with a single step - in the UK, our ocean decarbonisation journey started last year with the arrival of Laura Maersk, the world's first container vessel running on green methanol. The journey now continues with Ane Maersk on our AE7 service, offering our customers a more sustainable route from Far East Asia to the UK, powered by green methanol.
The decarbonisation efforts don’t stop at the port. Once the vessel is docked, containers are unloaded using electric cranes and moved on electric vehicles. From the port, containers embark further on their inland journey on HVO-fuelled rail or electric trucks, either to your facility or to one of our strategically located warehouses in the Golden Triangle area. East Midlands Gateway, for instance, is built to cater to the highest decarbonisation efforts and underlines Maersk’s vision for integrating logistics with net-zero GHG emissions by 2040.
