Mandatory Export Proof of Report Number (CERS) Requirement for Canada

Please be informed as of October 1st, 2020, the Proof of Report Number issued by Canada customs will be a mandatory requirement for cargo to load on vessels departing from Canadian load ports. This requirement is in line with CBSA’s transition from Canadian Automated Export Declaration System (CAED) to Canadian Export Reporting System (CERS).

CBSA will decommission its CAED system and transition to CERS effective October 1st, 2020. However, the paper-based reporting will no longer be permitted as of June 30th. We encourage you to activate your CERS account as soon as possible and be ready for the change.

We will continue to request the Proof of Report Number to be provided to Maersk by the established deadline on booking confirmations (prior to port cut-off) to ensure the container loads on the intended vessel. Starting October 1st shipments with missing Proof of Report Number will be rolled and subject to a non-negotiable USD 275.00 per container roll fee.

The Proof of Report Number can be provided while submitting your shipping instructions via Maersk.com, 3rd Party Platforms, EDI, or e-mail to our documentation team at northamericasi@maersk.com.

Note for cargo moving cross-border from the US, the AES reference or in-bond number will suffice in place of a Proof of Report Number.
