Ensuring cargo readiness for your shipments is important for both the safety and compliance of your cargo during transportation. Recently there has been a change in global legal regulations, requiring customers to independently calculate and submit Verified Gross Mass (VGM) of their shipments.
Customers submitting VGM via the Shipping Instructions page on maersk.com, will have to manually fill in the VGM calculation (total sum of cargo weight and container tare weight).
Please thus note that maersk.com will no longer perform automated calculations on behalf of customers, even if customers only fill in the cargo weight. Customers would thus need to submit their VGM via the Shipping Instructions page, or the Tracking page (Shipment Binder – ‘Containers’ tab). Shipments with no VGM declared by deadline will face the risk of their shipments being shut out from loading.
For customers shipping on Maersk containers, the tare weight will be pre-populated on the SI submission page for easy reference.
With this new change, customers will experience more ownership and reduced instances of VGM discrepancies between customers and carrier records.
