Introduction of a dedicated New Zealand coastal service – Maersk Coastal connect

Maersk continues to invest in restoring the New Zealand network reliability, while continuing to offer a superior port coverage to future proof New Zealand domestic and international cargo connections. We are pleased to announce the following changes to our Oceania Network.

We are pleased to announce the launch of dedicated New Zealand coastal service that will bring the much-needed schedule resilience, flexibility and superior coverage to the New Zealand supply chain. The launch of the dedicated New Zealand coastal service marks an important milestone in our 25 years of operation in the country as we continue to invest in the New Zealand market to offer reliable connections, both for domestic and international cargo.

New Zealand coastal service (branded as Maersk coastal connect) will be operated by 2 ships. To protect critical connections to our International services and maintain buffer in our schedule to absorb impact from the supply chain disruption the service will be operated on a two-loop rotation:

• Maersk Nadi: AUCKLAND* –TAURANGA – TIMARU –LYTTELTON
• Maersk Nansha: NELSON* – TAURANGA – TIMARU –LYTTELTON

Phase in and schedule details as follows.

*Alternating coverage by 2 ships will enable weekly frequency in ports of Tauranga, Timaru and Lyttelton and fortnightly coverage in ports of Nelson and Auckland.
**Port of Nelson coverage on 5th of July will be catered by the Seaspan Hannover last voyage on the Sirius Star service

The additional investment into a dedicated New Zealand coastal service, in conjunction with recent announcement to build a cold chain facility in Hamilton, will create significant value for our New Zealand customers. Maersk’s expanded local product portfolio in coastal shipping, warehousing, cold chain logistics landside delivery and value-added services will connect New Zealand in new ways and enhance our overall product offering to provide integrated and flexible supply chain solutions.

Southern Star Service to add Brisbane

In addition to the launch of NZ Coastal service (Maersk Coastal Connect) we are also pleased to announce that our mainliner system Southern Star will re-introduce the port of Brisbane on her rotation after South East Asia ports. The port coverage in New Zealand will remain unchanged.

The revised Southern Star service rotation will be:

TANJUNG PELEPAS – SINGAPORE – BRISBANE – SYDNEY – TAURANGA – NAPIER – LYTTELTON – PORT CHALMERS

The first Brisbane port call on the Southern Star service will be on the 15th of July on Rio De Janeiro / voyage 226S/229N.

New Zealand - Fiji Island coverage

With the Sirius Star service being terminated we will keep offering New Zealand and Fiji connection on a fortnightly basis. More details regarding future network covering Fiji Islands will be available at a later stage during Q3 2022.

Given the ongoing New Zealand port congestion and delays, the actual arrival and departure times along New Zealand coast may vary.
