There is an old English adage that goes, “an apple a day, keeps the doctor away”. We believe the same can be said of warehouses, as we see them as an integral part of a strong supply chain.

2021 heralded in multiple challenges that were felt by all. Supply chain resilience has never been more prominent or needed, and whilst many may know of our warehousing options, not many understand just how they can strengthen your business.

Warehouses – how they can help you

Our global network of warehouses covers services such as consolidation, deconsolidation, fulfilment, and distribution as well as container depots. Currently, Maersk has over 280 warehouses across the globe, accounting for 5.6 mil. m2, and has ambitions to expand to more than 800 warehouses by 2026. Our warehouses, utilising a hybrid-system of automation, robotics and skilled teams of warehousing professionals, can act as a key component in your supply chain. By utilising Maersk warehousing services, we can offer door-to-door logistics; be it collecting, sorting, and moving your products from or to warehouses or elsewhere, as well as preparing and managing your import & export shipping containers and ensuring the cargo, offering intermodal services like rail and trucking, as well as shipment and ensuring the delivery ends up at its final destination.

Finding the right fit

Maersk warehouses can be split into three main groups, each dedicated to meet certain needs. Consolidation centres are connected to your sourcing areas and can combine materials and goods pre-export, helping optimise landside and air movements, and ocean container loads.

Deconsolidation centres are warehouses for your cargo when it arrives to its destination market. Many of these warehouses are located close to key ocean ports, allowing for faster throughput of your cargo and keeping the supply chain’s flow optimised, landside.

Fulfilment centres, is where we handle pick, pack and fulfil your orders close to market, for both E-commerce and B2B orders. These facilities are supported by our Warehouse & Inventory Management Systems, handling receipt, storage, pick and pack and order fulfilment.

The future of storage

Our goal is to see and meet your logistical needs before you do. It is something we are consistently working at, especially in these times of ever-changing needs. Whilst our current offering of warehouses is useful to our customers, we believe that by increasing our offering within this field, we can create even greater seamless end-to-end solutions.

By expanding and building upon our pre-existing network of warehouses, be they large anchor regional warehouses or on-demand access multi-customer facilities, we wish to make warehouses available in all relevant locations. Through increasing the amount and locations of our warehouses, we can offer our customers more flexibility and assist them in quicker time to market, as products will be stored closer to the customer. The more flexibility we can offer our customers, the better they can respond to changing demand patterns, new business opportunities and/or enact cost-saving activities.

As your integrated logistics partner, we are here to support your business and future growth ambitions, so if you have not already, please feel free to reach out to our local teams to learn what we can do for you and your logistics.
