We are currently monitoring the impacts of Tropical Storm Beryl and will keep you informed about its effects on your supply chain. The safety of our teams and your cargo remains our top priority.
Beryl made landfall on the Texas coast early this morning as a hurricane with sustained winds of 85 mph and heavy rainfall before being downgraded to a tropical storm. Coastal regions including Houston and Galveston have experienced severe flooding, power outages, and wind damage. Continuous heavy rainfall is expected across Texas, potentially leading to further flooding in low-lying areas. The storm is projected to move inland, affecting areas further north with strong winds and rainfall.
Operations Update:
The Houston ship channel and terminal closed yesterday and today. The Port of Houston is currently at port condition “Yankee,” prohibiting inbound ship movements. Terminal operations have been suspended as preparations are made to resume operations. The Port posted an update on its website stating that the terminal will remain closed on Tuesday, July 9th.
In response to the storm, BNSF Railway announced on July 7th that it had begun restricting operations in its Houston complex, spanning 60 square miles and including five rail yards. Ingates at the BNSF Pearland Intermodal Facility in Houston were suspended.
Facility Updates:
A number of our Houston-based facilities and teams have been impacted by power loss. However, Maersk has teams across the US and Canada covering customer needs as they arise. In addition, some of our local trucking operations facilities are without power as well but expect to resume operations once the Houston terminal gates open.
Customer Advisory and Support:
Due to storm-related delays and July 4th holiday closures, there may be additional schedule updates. Please check the Maersk vessel schedules for the latest information.
We thank you for your continued support and understanding during this challenging time. Your supply chain is our utmost concern, and we will continue to keep you informed of developments until normal operations resume.
