Agility. Resilience. Flexibility.
These are key words we at Maersk are always trying to instill in our integrated logistic measures, so that our customers are best assisted in ensuring stability in their supply chains. The pandemic and its aftermath ushered in a period of significant delays, bottlenecking and capacity issues across all sectors, and only made the need for continued efforts within agility and resilience more apparent.
Soaring over the obstacles
Port congestions, container shortages and heavier demands on supply chains have wrought varying degrees of conflict, underlining the need for expanded capacity as well as multiple flows to market. We know from customer feedback that building resilience and agility matters more than lean operations and understand the desire for different and innovative ways of ensuring routes and delivery. To Maersk, building resilience is not only about preventing future challenges but also ensuring that when similar challenges do occur in the future, they do not lead to the same outcomes as today.
That is why we at Maersk continue to expand our logistical capabilities, this time by intending to acquire Senator International, a recognised global freight forwarder.* A noted industry partner, Senator brings with it a strong network of own-controlled flights, intercontinental rail, warehousing, distribution and packaging across the Americas, Asia, Europe and South Africa.
To further accelerate our air freight abilities, Maersk is also purchasing two new B777F and leasing three B767-300 cargo planes. With disruptions to supply chains becoming more prevalent, we believe that offering integrated logistics including air solutions are key to ensuring that you can flexibly manage interruptions to your supply chain. As such, through this expansion, we will be able to offer more agility and resilience in global supply chains.
Optimising your supply chain
This, in turn, offers you, our customers, more versatility when shaping your supply chain, allowing you to build robustness through unique and streamlined solutions, as well as allowing you to be even more adaptive when facing fluctuating market trends and lack of predictability. As a result of the Suez blockage, many customers reached out for alternative cargo transportation for time sensitive shipments. We received similar requests in the matter of the port delays to Los Angeles port. We take immense pride in meeting our customers’ needs and finding viable solutions to your supply chain challenges. To us it is not merely about avoiding a problem but also about meeting it head on and finding immediate solutions. That is why we continue to invest in furthering our capabilities, to enhance our integrated offering and be the best partner we can be.
We understand that one size fits none, and pride ourselves in being entrepreneurs and finding new and innovative ways to move your cargo.
The benefits of air freight
Whilst we have long offered air freight options, this multifaceted expansion means an increase in capacity, allowing us to further tailor solutions according to your needs. By adding air to your logistics, you can now be even more streamlined in your supply chain, as air freight allows for new trade lanes to be established worldwide.
We know that many of our customers operating in the technology, FMCG (Fast-Moving-Consumer-Goods), lifestyle, pharmaceutical and automotive industry, have high demand for speed and delivery reliability combined with high value cargo. Here, air freight is an optimal solution to critical components needed in their supply chain.
Air Freight offers increased agility; through Air Freight, we can deliver cargo in all shapes and sizes, closer to their final destination, bypassing longer logistic chains.
As your integrated logistics partner, we here at Maersk look forward to helping you to take to the skies so you can grow and expand your business.
*The acquisition of Senator International is subject to regulatory approvals and the transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2022.
