Are electric cars the future?
Electric cars seem to be all the hype. They are popping up everywhere and one in every seven passenger vehicles sold in 2022 was an electric vehicle (EV). Billions are being invested into new technologies that are moving at blistering speed, but there are a several challenges luring on the horizon for the automotive industry, as Global Head of Automotive at Maersk, Antonio Fondevilla outlines. A number of different technologies are competing to dominate the market. Furthermore, with an increasing number of electric cars, the need for an expanded electric grid and electric capacity also increases significantly.
Customers left confused and producers needing to make a choice
With the speed new batteries and technologies are being developed, consumers are hesitating to buy into a technology that could prove to be obsolete in a few years or even a matter of months. These challenges leave the end-consumers confused, says Fondevilla, and car producers need to make some important decisions for the years ahead.
