Charges & key information

Brazil charges and fees

All local charges and fees are clearly outlined to help you estimate costs accurately. Transparent pricing ensures smoother budgeting and fewer unexpected fees.
  • PIS / COFINS (Brazilian Tax) is included in the tariff.
  • 25% Import tax (Marinha Mercante) imposed if inland leg is included on the Bill of Lading.
  • Rates include pick-up and drop-off of empty/full equipment, hauling of full containers to/from port terminal, GRIS (risk management), and Ad Valorem (insurance) for cargo valued up to BRL 500,000.
  • For cargo valued between BRL 500,000.00 and BRL 1,000,000.00, there is an additional charge of BRL 250.00. For higher values, please request a special quotation.
  • Please note that stuffing, stripping, and lashing services are not included.
  • For containers with hazardous materials (IMO), there is an additional charge of BRL 300.00 per container, subject to prior approval.
  • The free time for loading and unloading is up to 5 hours. After that, there will be an additional fee of BRL 135 per hour (except for Manaus).
  • For operations in Manaus, the free time for loading and unloading unattached chassis is up to 24 hours. After that, there will be an additional charge of BRL 250 per day.
  • Electronics goods require prior consultation and are allowed based on the value of the cargo.
  • Additional cost per container for DTA/DAT process, as necessary. USD 80,00.
  • Dead freight is 100% of the freight. Applicable to cancellations made by the client with notice of 24 hours or less. If the operation has already started, toll charges will also be passed through.

Proposal validity: Quotation valid upon acceptance, according to the validity stated above.
If there are changes in the profile or scope of the operation that affect the assumptions of the proposal, prices must be revised to maintain financial balance.
All new operations will be subject to an implementation process, including mapping of the operational flow and SOP agreed between the parties.

Freight adjustment: Will be based on the INCT-L index on the contract anniversary. The parties may also agree on new prices and adjustment methods if a contractual imbalance between the agreed prices and the actual service provided is evidenced, always aiming to maintain the economic and financial balance of the relationship. This cost analysis will be carried out quarterly, starting from the beginning of the agreement/contract. Any price adjustment will be previously communicated to the client and agreed between the parties.

Diesel trigger: Rates may be adjusted in case of variation, positive or negative, equal to or greater than 5% in the diesel price, according to the index published by the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), with the adjustment applied to 30% of the freight (weight component). This adjustment may occur at any time during the contract term or upon its expiration.

Toll pass-through: Rates are subject to automatic pass-through of toll adjustments, if applicable.

Payment terms: Payment term to be agreed, subject to credit approval.

Escort services: Escort costs must be requested separately from this proposal. All costs related to this scope will be fully passed on to the client.

Other carriers’ scheduling: Maersk is not responsible for the unavailability of containers or depot slots and will promptly notify the client so that the matter can be handled directly with the responsible carrier. Empty container return will be carried out within up to 24 hours after unloading. If no depot slot is available, the empty container will be directed to a partner terminal until return is possible. Any additional costs will be fully passed on. If the operation is not initiated within 24 hours after scheduling, Maersk reserves the right to remove its vehicles from the loading site, and all related costs will be fully charged to the client.
Maersk is not responsible for loss of opportunity, loss of profits, or any indirect damages;
Responsibility for any reimbursements related to incidents, losses, or damages will be assessed by Maersk’s claims department, excluding cases of force majeure;
Any costs that may arise and were not previously communicated for the preparation of this commercial proposal will be fully passed on.
